Electra Johnson is fundamentally a woman of the west; a pioneer, a connector. She values craft and the mastery of the trades. She is a designer, builder, artist, change maker.

Electra Johnson, is the principal and founder of Electra Johnson Design & Planning llc.  with deep roots in Rural Southern Colorado. Her maternal great grandparents were immigrants and union organizers who came to work in the Southern Coalfield Coal mines of Huerfano county from Scotland, Ireland and Italy.  Her father was was one of the first members of the Libre artist community as a trailblazer to the many hippie communities that found home in Huerfano County. 
Electra Johnson is a community planner and architectural designer whose focus has been the use of design as a maverick force that can transform and create place that transcends scale and time.   Electra brings a broad range of experience from construction management, industrial design, interior design to commercial/ retail, hospitality, residential, restaurant design and historic preservation work as well as community outreach, visioning, organizing and design.  Electra Johnson is a third generation Huerfano County- Coloradan.    As a Colorado Native, she has deep understanding of the issues, impacts and benefits of growth, development & land use affecting the west especially in rural area as well as a deep love for the natural environment.  Electra was born and raised at the end of a long dirt road in rural colorado in a home that her father built that had no indoor plumbing until she was 12 years old. She left early to model for Ford Models in Europe, Asia, South America, Australia and New Zealand, because of this varied life her deep love of environment and landscape is balanced by a cosmopolitan approach and western resourcefulness as well as a tremendous amount of grit.   
She has spent over 25 years as a designer of well loved places and an advocate for communities and landowners to help build consensus and find the best solutions to work together to solve problems. The focus of EJD+P is sustainable housing and she is currently building a compressed earth block home building a home with her husband and son from local materials. The planning efforts of EJD+P are focused on bringing resources to rural areas that have been left behind and do not have the capacity and resources that urban areas have.  Electra Johnson is fundamentally a woman of the west; a pioneer, a connector- She is hardworking and visionary.   She values craft and the mastery of the trades.
