Arkansas Valley Fair Grounds & Crystal Lake Master Plan

The Arkansas Valley Fairgrounds and Crystal Lake will serve as a gateway that will becomes a year-round hub of recreation serving the entire region. This collaboration will create a connection to regional park land through an IGA with the City of Aurora, on land that runs from Swink to Manzanola connecting the Rocky Ford Wildlife Area and Ryan’s Pond, it is envisioned to become a major wildlife corridor along the Arkansas River, with trails for biking, hiking, horseback riding. Building on the existing fairgrounds and wild trails that have developed over time at Crystal Lake and adding in amenities that will be used year-round to improve the connection and access to outdoor activities for the entire community, but especially will serve the adjacent community surrounding the area that is low income and currently has limited access. The Arkansas Valley Fairgrounds are used for the beloved Arkansas Valley Fair, the oldest continuous fair in the State of Colorado, that has endured because it brings together all communities in the Arkansas River Valley from Fowler to La Junta, to Ordway to Eads. The AV&CL masterplan seeks to build on and update existing amenities to transform the existing fairgrounds and adjacent Crystal Lake into a regional park and community "living room" connecting and celebrating the rich history of the region and celebrating the rural way of life with pride through historic signage and placemaking that celebrates the whole Arkansas River
